The City of San Francisco has let us know about a new position available, as a Senior Community Development Specialist, helping the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development’s efforts related to the funding of projects and programs in the City’s Cultural Districts. It’s an important and demanding position; you can read more about it here.
Open House Held
What has the the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District been doing since the Community Meeting last August? Who is on the Board of Directors? Who is the new District Manager? How is the District doing financially? What’s a CHHESS? How close are we to building a Leather Cultural Center? What are the new Committees? How can folks become full Voting Members? What else can folks do to help?
Answers to these other questions were on display at the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District Open House, held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the SF LGBT Center in San Francisco.
You can view the video of the event here! The slide show (which is hard to see on the video) can be viewed here.

Special Volunteer Opportunity
The LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District is seeking a volunteer to work on a “Post-Planning Project Survey” for our Land Use Committee.
Background:
The Land Use Committee for the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District has been very successful so far in our efforts to get the owners and managers of new buildings to include a “lease addendum” for each new tenant, to assure that new residents of our neighborhood are fully informed about the nature of the Cultural District they are moving into.
The key is identifying and contacting new projects at the right time. We have good systems in place for spotting new projects as they move through the SF Planning Department pipeline, but we believe there are some buildings that are past the point where our monitoring procedures can identify them. So we need to do a survey of these “post planning” projects in our neighborhood, using online maps, listings, and other known resources.
The Survey Project:
This is a one-time effort — although we will actually want to do it three times, over three months, to be sure we don’t miss any. Because this is a time-limited project, we think it would be ideal for someone who wants to get their feet wet with regard to land use issues and the work of our Committee, but is not ready for a long-term commitment.
The volunteer job requires only basic computer skills and attention to detail. You can do it on your home computer, on your own time schedule. We will fully train and support you. When done, you can accept our thanks and say goodbye, or move to deeper involvement with Land Use Committee, and perhaps become part of the Cultural District’s leadership.
Above all, you will be helping to protect, preserve, and promote Leather and LGBTQ values and culture among the new residents of our very special SoMa neighborhood.
If interested, please contact land–use-chair@SFLCD.org, or attend the next meeting of the Land Use Committee on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at 7:00 pm, in the back bar of the SF Eagle, 398 12th Street at Harrison, in San Francisco.
Of course, other volunteer opportunities within our efforts are plentiful! Please contact info@SFLCD.org or call 415-237-3237 to discuss.
