Historic Building Resources

The LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District has access to considerable information about the history of buildings and businesses in SOMA, and we are happy to assist others in research.

If you own or manage a building in our neighborhood, and are interested in learning more about its history, please contact us.

We even have folks you can hire to do additional research and write reports (for example, if required for a permit application, government requirements, or historic preservation application).

If your building has a history relevant to our queer and kinky communities, we would love to help you prepare informational materials for guests or visitors, or to install sidewalk or wall plaques about that history.  We are starting a program to install informational plaques at historic locations.

Businesses that occupy buildings in historic locations may wish to display information about their history.  We will soon be able to offer you  a “QR Code” to direct visitors to the “Walking Tour” page that discusses your location.

If you have reliable historic information about a particular location in SOMA, or a photograph or document that you can share with us, we would love to hear from you about that, too.

Please contact us using the info below, and we will put you in touch with the most appropriate person to follow up with you.

Thanks!
