LeatherWalk History

The LeatherWalk Tradition

With PRC’s generous cooperation, the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District acquired LeatherWalk in 2021, since the District is uniquely positioned to shepherd the event into the future.

LeatherWalk was founded in 1992 by Art Tomaszewski, former AEF Board President, Bare Chest Calendar Man and former Mr. Headquarters Leather. Art was inspired to start an event that would raise visibility, comradery and funds for AEF.

In 2001, Sandy ‘Mama’ Reinhardt, a tireless community fundraiser and founding advisor at BCEF, took over event production of LeatherWalk.

Mr. San Francisco Leather 2010 Lance Holman took the reins for several years, before passing the baton (or whip) to Folsom Street Events and PRC.

While there was no LeatherWalk in 2019, the SF Eagle had a Leather Pride Parade.

During the pandemic, PRC agreed to permanently transfer the LeatherWalk name and tradition to the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District, and in 2021, LeatherWalk and the Leather Pride Parade merged. LeatherWalk now ends at the SF Eagle Bar’s Leather Pride Fest.

In 2022, inclement weather forced us to postpone LeatherWalk until October, that year ending at the Bearrison Street Fair.

The LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District is proud to continue this community tradition.
