Commemorative Sidewalk Plaques Planned

An important part of our work is helping residents, workers and visitors appreciate the history and culture of the District’s buildings and streets.

We are working on a project to install up to 49 bronze plaques at key historic locations around SoMa, in cooperation with the SF Arts Commission, Public Works, the SFMTA, and with funding provided by local developers.

We have a historic opportunity to commemorate the businesses and institutions that established the Leather and LGBTQ community in SOMA.

The project is planned to be presented to the Arts Commission in October or November, and we would love to hear your opinions about the plaque design and placement.  Public comment is welcome at the Arts Commission Hearing.

Please review the Presentation and give us your feedback below.  Your name and address is optional, but please remember to click “SUBMIT” at the bottom.

Of particularly timely interest, the City of San Francisco has prepared a flyer of information about Air Quality and COVID-19.

Although we will continue to maintain our page of information about businesses open in our Cultural District, the SOMA West Community Benefit District is now offering a very comprehensive list of dining options in the entire SOMA West area, here.   Whether for takeout or socially-distanced outdoor dining, please do patronize these businesses as often as possible, and help our neighborhood to survive these challenging times.  Thanks!
