Kink n Shop – June 7

Thank you to everyone who came out on Sunday for our District Anniversary: Kink n Shop! Nearly 300 people attended and shopped, played, and socialized. Our Gear Swap n Shop and the kinky vendors all had a banner day! Thank you to the many people who donated previously enjoyed gear and toys to our Gear Swap n Shop! Those donations help fund our efforts to keep SOMA vibrant and kinky! A record number of votes were cast for the Leather Contingent Parade Marshals, and Team Goth raised money for AIDS Walk.
Look for us at Pride! We’ll be marching in the Parade with the Leather Contingent. Come find us and our Gear Swap n Shop at Leather Alley on Pride Sunday for great deals on previously enjoyed leather, toys, etc.

Safety and Solidarity Forum

On May 5, the LEATHER & LGBTQ Leather District and ONYX Northwest led a conversation about the safety, security, and solidarity of our community, at the Folsom Street Community Center.

Robert Costic, Cultural District Secretary and Safety Committee Co-Chair presented on how we can all be better prepared for ICE activity in the Bay Area.  (Click here to view ICE Preparedness presentation as PDF.)

Darius Taylor, ONYX Road Captain and Safety Committee Co-Chair, led a discussion on harm reduction at the intersection of sex and substance use. (Click here to view SOMA Safety presentation as PDF.)

Ken Craig talked about the role of the Castro Community on Patrol, and the SFPD LGBTQ+ Advisory Forum.

Community members provided important feedback and information, Fentanyl test strips and red cards (bilingual guide to interacting with ICE) were distributed, and folks were advised how and where to get safety whistles and Narcan.

Afterwards, some folks continued the conversation at a Cinco de Mayo Taco Tuesday social next door at Azúcar Lounge.
