Sidewalk Plaques Start Arriving

Over the last two days, the first five sidewalk plaques in our Leather Legacy Landmarks project have been installed  on Folsom Street, between 7th and 9th Streets!
Our historians have identified 77 historic locations in SOMA where we plan to install sidewalk plaques.
We need your help to fund these plaques, donations of any size can be made at: https://sflcd.org/plaques/
Plaque sponsorship is also available, which allows your name to be permanently on a plaque.
A huge thank you goes to Bryan Dahl, aide to Supervisor Matt Dorsey, for his tireless efforts in seeing us through a three-year permitting process.
Thank you also to DPW’s Logan Hehn for finalizing our permits. We would like to thank DPW, and Ruby Yu and Carol Huang for all their work and for installing the plaques. DPW will be installing the first 16 plaques.

Up Your Alley Fun

The annual Up Your Alley Street Fair was a great success, despite less-than-balmy temperatures. The LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District booth was nicely positioned, and got a great many visitors.

Our booth volunteers answered questions about the Cultural District, signed up folks for our mailing list, handed out 500 LeatherWalk postcards, and sold our classic pins and bandanas in lots of popular colors.  Our new t-shirt was on display, so folks could check it out our before ordering their own online.

Safety Blows distributed 443 whistles using our booth.  [For more info on the whistles and safety in SOMA, visit our Safety Resources page, or SafetyBlows.org.]

Our Gear Swap was a lot of fun:  people enjoyed browsing the kinky merchandise, and appreciated the chance to buy gear at super-affordable prices, while generating over $1800 in revenue for the Cultural District. We look forward to holding another Leather / Kink Gear Swap at the Folsom Street Fair in September.  Read more about our Gear Swap here.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make it possible.  Happily, we had enough volunteers to allow them to take short shifts, so they could fully enjoy the Fair as well.  You can sign up to volunteer with us here.
