LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District

To celebrate the recent repairs and maintenance to the Ringold Leather History Alley, the District and Soma West CBD held a block party, on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 12 noon to 3 pm, on Ringold Street, which runs from 8th to 9th Street, between Folsom and Harrison Streets in  San Francisco.

• It featured:
  A history tours by noted historian, and District board member, Gayle S. Rubin
• Live painting with Josh Katz
• Rope bondage suspension with Two Knotty Boys
• Caricatures by Paul Gallo
• A blessing by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
• Bootblack boy zander

In honor of the Alley’s bronze bootprints, sixteen local artists turned a combat boot into an art piece. The boots were on display during the event and put up for auction.

Garrett Sohnly, a local artist and member of the LCD’s Arts and Culture Committee, has been compiling a slideshow of the murals and street art of our neighborhood.

Mercy Housing California (MHC) is seeking qualified artists residing in the state of California to submit their qualifications for the commissioning of multiple artworks for an 8-story, mixed-use, affordable housing development at 600 7^th  Street, in San Francisco.

This is an exciting  opportunity for artists to become involved in the early stages of the project.
