We aspire to provide a central collaborative platform for the preservation\, evolution and transmission of Japanese and Japanese American culture in the Bay Area.\nThe Cultural Districts Initiative is a formalized partnership between the City of San Francisco and legacy communities. Japantown is one of 8 Districts in the city’s new initiative. We are funded by Prop E Hotel Taxes\, and a program of the Japantown Task Force.\nThroughout last year\, the Japantown Task Force held focus groups to better understand the needs of our community and how the Cultural District can work to fill in the gaps. One element that came through loud and clear was the need for more energy and resources dedicated to the upliftment of our artists and culture bearers. As a result\, one of our current strategic priorities is to design and launch a Virtual/Physical Co-Creative Space\, where artists can connect with one another\, showcase their work\, host and attend creative workshops\, stay up to date on arts opportunities\, and more. As we begin to build out this virtual space\, we want to do so in collaboration with our artist community\, to ensure that this space is meaningful\, inspiring\, accessible\, and functional. That’s where you come in!
