SUMMARY:Mural Unveiling and Artist Meet & Greet
DESCRIPTION:The LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District commissioned prominent queer artist Serge Gay\, Jr.\, to paint a mural on the Heron Street wall of renowned leather and gear supplier Mr. S Leather.  Located at the corner of 8th Street\, the mural depicts a playful human puppy surrounded by images that fit the Mr. S brand.  A public dedication of the mural will be held on Thursday\, July 27\, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Heron Street\, with festivities inside the Mr. S showroom to meet the artist.   \nSerge Gay. Jr.\, has previously been associated with th4e Cultural District as the lead of a five-artist team which painted the 2\,240 square foot mural “Showtime” on two façade of the world-famous drag bar Oasis in May of 2022.  More Recently\, Serge was one of sixteen queer artists whose works were shown at a salon-style Pride Popup Art Show at Herron Arts Gallery at the beginning of June just steps away from the Mr. S mural.   \nThe LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District’s vision is to rejoice\, commemorate\, and protect the contributions of our predecessors\, contemporaries\, and successors rooted in western SOMA and its diverse and marginalized peoples.  United\, we preserve\, enhance\, and advocate for the continuity and vitality of the Kinky and Queer communities of San Francisco’s LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District. \nMr. S Leather is a fixture in the San Francisco kink scene\, located in the heart of the SOMA district where the leather scene was born.  Come by and visit the largest kink showroom in the world to discover the very best classic BDSM gear and sex toys! \nSerge Gay Jr. is a Grammy nominated illustrator/fine artist/graphic designer currently based out of San Francisco\, California.  The story of Serge Gay Jr. began with his birth in Port-au-Prince\, Haiti and developed during his years in the U.S.  His art infuses inspiration born from living in cities from coast to coast.  Influences in his work can be found from the culture of his homeland\, New York\, Miami\, and Detroit.  Currently the story continues to evolve from the west coast of the United States.  He is the youngest of three boys and a third generation artist.  Art is in his blood and he has felt this talent for as long as he can remember.

SUMMARY:Entrepreneur Training Program
DESCRIPTION:The LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District Entrepreneur Training Program is a nine-week training program where up to ten entrepreneurs from new or existing businesses serving the San Francisco leather and kink communities will work as a cohort in a mutually supportive environment to develop their respective businesses from the ground up. \nThe next cohort begins on September 14. \nIn this program\, they will learn about different aspects of starting and running a business:  customer discovery\, marketing\, finance\, operations\, strategizing\, and business presentation. Through Zoom-based group sessions and one-on-one consultations\, they will also learn about how to formalize and register their business in San Francisco\, locate permit and licensing requirements\, and access useful resources.  At the end of the 9 weeks\, they will be invited to present their business plan to a panel of local business leaders\, experts\, and potential funders. \nWe are looking for entrepreneurs who have a strong connection with the Leather Community and SOMA. They should:\n1. Plan to set up a storefront in the SOMA area or start a business catering to the Leather Community\,\n2. Plan to sell their products or provide their services in SOMA either at a permanent location or through popup locations such as a street fair\, or\n3. DESCRIPTION:LeatherWalk is the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District’s annual SOMA celebration and march. \nWe walk together to celebrate leather\, kink\, family and community — all while raising funds for the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District. LeatherWalk Kinky Boot Award to top fundraiser. \nParticipation is free\, optional donations support the Cultural District’s work to keep SOMA kinky & queer.  It’s fun\, the visibility is politically important\, and a great way to enjoy the neighborhood!  Organizations are invited to bring their banners and insignia. Self-expression is encouraged whether leather\, fetish gear\, or skin. \nWe will start walking at City Hall\, pausing for entertainment and beverages\, at favorite SOMA venues including: \n– Oasis\n– Powerhouse\n– Hole in the Wall\n– Azúcar Lounge\n– Folsom Street Community Center\n– Leather Etc.\n– Mr. S Leather\n– Lone Star Saloon \nWe will reflect on our community’s origins at the Blessing of the Leathers at the Ringold Leather History Alley\, and end at Eagle Plaza\, to raise the Leather Pride Flag\, as part of SF Eagle Bar’s Leather Pride Festival. \nLeatherWalk 2023 benefits the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District\, keeping our SOMA neighborhood kinky and queer. \nAll are welcome to join the walk.
