FINAL TOWN HALL
June 25th on ZOOM!
Shaping the Future of Japantown with OUR 2020 Vision
We hope that you are staying safe and healthy during these tumultuous times. At the Japantown Cultural District, our team has been working to incorporate your input from the last 7 focus groups and two town hall meetings, while considering the rapidly shifting circumstances. We have finally reached a time where we have shared the “Supplemental CHHESS Rough Draft” with all of you on our website for review.
At this Final Town Hall Meeting for the Japantown Cultural District, we will report back to you everything we heard from the community during the CHHESS process, and present to you the CHHESS Strategies. Please make an attempt to read the “Supplemental CHHESS Rough Draft” at japantowntaskforce.org before the Town Hall Meeting. The intention of this meeting is to create an opportunity for discussion and feedback on the strategies to be implemented in Japantown during the next coming years. Your feedback from this Final Town Hall will be incorporated into the final edits of the CHHESS, projected to be submitted to the Board of Supervisors in mid-September.
We have a precious opportunity to voice our common vision, be heard, and actualize it through the CHHESS plan.

The Japantown Cultural District is a community-wide program to collectively envision & develop strategies to sustain Japantown into the future. It is a formalized collaborative partnership between the Japantown Task Force and the City and County of San Francisco to stabilize this historic neighborhood that is at risk of displacement and gentrification. This year 2020, the Japantown Cultural District Team will synthesize all of the community’s input to develop the CHHESS (Cultural History, Housing, and Economic Sustainability Strategy) Report. The CHHESS will be submitted to the Board of Supervisors in late Summer of 2020, and will focus on implementable and prioritized action items. Your ideas are a key component for synthesizing this CHHESS strategy! Learn more here.
The CHHESS will address 7 key areas:
- Arts and Culture
- Land Use
- Cultural Heritage Conservation & Sustainability
- Economic & Workforce Development
- Tenant Protections
- Cultural Competency
- Regenerative, Sustainable, Resilient Futures
Your Input is Extremely Valuable!
